MMOEXP POE2:How to Enable the Reforging Bench in Path of Exile 2
In Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2), the Reforging Bench is one of the most impactful crafting tools you can unlock during your playthrough. Serving as the replacement for the traditional “three‑to‑one” vendor recipe from Path of Exile 1, this bench lets players take three items of the POE 2 Currency same type and rarity and combine them into one new item with randomized properties — which can be anything from weaponry and armor to runes and waystones.
What the Reforging Bench Does
Once unlocked, the Reforging Bench allows you to destroy three identical items (same base type and rarity) to create one new item of that type with completely new stats. The result can either be better or worse — the system is inherently random — but it offers a powerful way to breathe new life into gear you would otherwise sell, salvage, or ignore.
Beyond gear, you can also reforge other items such as Waystones (to upgrade them to higher tiers), Distilled Emotions, Catalysts, Essences, Runes, Relics, and even uniques. For uniques, the process essentially works as a pseudo‑Divine Orb, giving you another chance at better rolls on items you already have.
How to Unlock the Reforging Bench
The Reforging Bench does not appear immediately — it must be earned by progressing through the campaign.
Here’s the step‑by‑step process:
Reach Act 3 in the Main Campaign
The quest that unlocks the bench is tucked away in the Drowned City, which you’ll first encounter as part of your Act 3 journey.
Accept the Quest “Treasures of Utzaal” from Oswald
In the Ziggurat Encampment, the NPC Oswald offers the side quest “Treasures of Utzaal.” This quest sends you off to an area called The Molten Vault.
Defeat Mektul, the Forgemaster
At the heart of the Molten Vault lies Mektul, the Forgemaster — a memorable boss fight with a timed mechanic and significant fire damage challenges. Defeat him to obtain the Hammer of Kamasa, a key quest item.
Return to Oswald and Turn in the Quest
Bring the Hammer of Kamasa back to Oswald. Upon completion, you’re rewarded with gold, a Skill Gem, and — most importantly — the Reforging Bench unlocks in towns and your hideout. From that point on, Reforging Benches appear next to Salvage Benches in every act’s hub, and in endgame areas.
Making the Most of Reforging
Once unlocked, the bench becomes a valuable tool throughout your PoE 2 adventure. Here are a few tips:
Use it early in Solo Self‑Found (SSF): Early access to random rerolls can make gearing smoother when trading isn’t an option.
Don’t mix rarities: The bench will only accept three items of the same rarity — so magic gear must be reforged with magic gear, rares with rares, etc. Corrupted items are unusable.
Item level matters: The new item crate will adopt the lowest item level of the three inputs — plan accordingly.
Ultimately, the Reforging Bench is a cheap POE 2 Currency flexible mechanic that rewards experimentation and inventory management. Whether you’re hunting better rolls for your main build or seeking higher‑tier maps via waystone reforging, it’s one of PoE 2’s more essential mid‑to‑late game tools.
